In Tune Together

It was back in '81
When Tony was inspired.
He asked friends from other churches
To form a local choir

"First we’ll see who’s interested,
Let’s contact all our friends.
We’ll fix a day that suits us all,
Then rehearsals can commence."

"Music is my skill", he said
"I could conduct the group."
"We’ll need someone to play for us,
And a venue which will suit."

He asked around for helpers.
A committee next was formed,
And so began the Neston choir.
A singing group was born.

"What shall we call the choir (they said),
Which title sounds the best?"
"Neston Ecumenical Singers (he replied)
Is the name that I suggest."

The word soon spread ‘round Neston
For people keen to sing
Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass
"We’ll make the rafters ring".

Practice night is Monday
A good way to start the week.
Concerts at Christmas and Easter
When standards hit a peak.

We’ve said goodbye to several friends
They’ll sing with us no more.
Some were there right from the start
We miss them, that’s for sure.

25 years of song have passed
Our progress clear to see!
Let’s keep up as we first began
In glorious harmony.
